Hi, I am a freelance writer and travel photographer in Vancouver.
I have done a write up, giving my perspective on the riot, and mentioned two of the heroes who courageously faced a violent mob, a mob that eventually beat them like rabid animals.
In my write up, I have made a suggestion or plea, that speakers visit ALL high schools in the lower mainland to discuss what happened.
Besides bringing to justice the idiotic perpetrators of crimes during the riot, I believe it is equally important to address this issue with the younger generations in order to prevent this from ever happening again.
I think it’s vital a lot of discussion is had with high school kids about the riot. They need to understand that what those barbarians did that night is *NOT* cool.
They need to learn what INTEGRITY, COURAGE and RESPECT really mean.
These kids have much more than most in the world, and they don’t appreciate it or understand it.
One woman from Vietnam I was speaking to yesterday said, “Some people are living in so much poverty in some places in the world, they don’t even *have* windows to break!”
Please check out my blog and my suggestion about visiting the high schools. I have also suggested for the actual rioters themselves to visit ALL lower mainland high schools to tell kids that they are NOT to be admired for what they did that night.
A simple tearful public apology is not enough.
